Errata

The text Elements of Power Electronics has undergone multiple levels of proofing by the author, students, technical editor, copy editor, and compositor. The production cycle was almost entirely electronic, and the team has worked hard to eliminate errors and keep errors from propagating. But nobody is perfect! Official error corrections are listed on this page. If you see a trouble spot, please check this list.  If it is not here, we would appreciate e-mail to the author. The problem will be checked out.   Proper viewing of this page requires Symbol font in addition to default fonts.

--> Most of the errors here have been corrected in the fourth and sixth printings.  Those corrected after the 4th printing are marked with a *.  Those that have not been corrected are marked with **.

p. xviii, There is a missing figure that defined some of the key circuit symbols.   A PDF copy is available.

Page 1, The bottom photograph is "... courtesy of Furnas Centrais Electricas, Brazil."
Except where noted, all photographs provided by L. Amaya and P. Krein

Page 28, "t0 = -p/(2w)" not "t0 = -p/2" in line 8

Page 35, A problem is mis-numbered. The first problem listed as 12 should be 11.

*Page 52, Figure 2.18.  The switching function labels q21 and q31 should be interchanged.  Corrected in the 6th printing.

Page 68, In equation (2.13), there are seven instances of missing parentheses. The various limits of integration should read "p/(2win)" rather than "p/2win" or "-p/(2win)" rather than "-p/2win"

Page 73, Figure 2.36.  The voltage waveform should be full wave, not half wave.  A PDF copy is available.

Page 81, Problem 2.14: This should read "... for the converter of Problem 6 above."

*Page 137, There is a 1/2 symbol out of position and overprinted.  Corrected in the 6th printing.

*Page 157, Problem 4.6: L <= 200 mH, rather than 20 mH (The respective answers with 20 mH are delta v = 0.293 V and delta v = 0.102 V.)  Corrected in the 6th printing

Page 158, Problem 4.11 should read "+3 V to +18 V" not "13 V to 118 V."  However, we will plan to provide both solutions.

*Page 170, Equation (5.13) and the explanation above it.  Formally, since the voltage in Fig. 5.7 is a cosine waveform, the current from the derivative when 1,1 and 2,2 are on is -wCV0 sin(wt) + V0/R cos(wt), and the equation is iin(t) (A) = -33.06 sin(wt) + 1.05 cos(wt).  However, notice that when 1,1 and 2,2 are on, the angle while the input current is flowing is negative, so the magnitudes implied by Eq. (5.13) are correct.  The plot in Fig. 5.8 is correct as shown.  Corrected in the 6th printing.

**Page 200, the cos term in Equation (5.58) should read (1 + cos α) not cos(1 + α).  Equation (5.38) on p. 189 provides the correct form.

**Page 223, Fig. 6.17, switches 2,1 and 2,2 have been drawn in the wrong polarity.

Page 236, second line.  There is a missing radical.  The expression should be   480Ö2 V = 679 V.

Page 285, Equation (8.6), the second inductance should appear as L2.

*Page 285, A solidus is misplaced in the second line below (8.6). It should read "wr = 1/Ö(LC)" instead of "wr = 1 Ö(L/C)".  Corrected in the 6th printing.

*Page 285, second line below (8.6) in the fourth printing.  This correction was not made completely, and now there is an extra solidus!  It should read "wr = 1/Ö(LC)" instead of "wr = 1/ Ö(L/C)".  Corrected in the 6th printing.

Page 288, Fig. 8.5.  The printed figure is identical to Fig. 8.5. The correct figure is linked here.

Page 315, Equation 8.52 has a typo.  The expression for Yc should be" Yc = Ö(C/L)"

*Page 338, Fig. 9.10:  The diode is upside down and is mislabeled with a capacitance symbol. Corrected in the 6th printing.

**Page 339, example 9.2.7.  The voltage variation with the sub-critical capacitance is 72 V rather than 2(Vin + Vout).  The results are Vout2 = 72, Iin = 2.50 A, Pin = 60 W, Vout = 8.485 V.

Page 345, Problem 9.1: Replace "10 W" with "230 W" in the final sentence.

Page 455, Example 13.3.1 Add a sentence to the problem statement.
"The manufacturers data show ... for this device. What is the static model corresponding to the peak current rating of 100 A?"  (The line in Figure 13.5 was selected to intersect the current at the peak rated value.)

*Page 471, Equation 13.19 has a notation typo.  It should read "W" in place of "Q".  Corrected in the 6th printing.

*Page 593, Fig. 15.19 at the top:  The test sequence reflected in the graph involves a 25% input voltage increase at time t=200 ms, a load resistance decrease at time t=400 ms, and a phase delay step at time t=600 ms.  The bottom graph in the figure has a test sequence consistent with that listed on p. 591.  Corrected in the 6th printing.

*Page 626, Example 16.2.1 data items.  The capacitor value is 10 mF rather than 100 mF. Corrected in the 6th printing.

Page 642, Equation 16.54 has a typo.  In the top expression, it should read "- v" in place of "+ d

*Page 690, last sentence before the Recap section: "faster than" in place of "faster then" .  Corrected in the 6th printing.
