The IEEE Power Electronics Society announces the Ninth IEEE Workshop on
Computers in Power Electronics (COMPEL’04). This workshop addresses
computational science and engineering applications to the design, analysis,
simulation, control, modeling, operation, and teaching of power electronic
circuits, devices, and systems. Thanks to advances in digital signal processing
(DSP) and in high-level design description (VHDL) methods, computation continues
to accelerate in all aspects of electronic energy processing. Special emphasis
at COMPEL’04 is “fully digital” control approaches that minimize
analog-to-digital converters and extend performance beyond conventional limits.
The workshop also includes hands-on software and hardware demonstrations
presented by participants.
The COMPEL’04 Committee will consider all submissions relevant to the
workshop areas of interest. Typical topics suitable for submission include:
• Simulation: devices, circuits, systems (including electro-thermal), numerical
methods, standards or benchmarks.
• Control: “fully digital” methods, DSP-based, low-power, hybrid approaches,
standards or benchmarks, computational circuits and devices as active loads.
• Modelling: devices, packaging, layout, noise susceptibility, failure
mechanisms and processes, systems, loads.
• Design: synthesis tools, VHDL, visualization tools, state-space and
frequency-domain control design tools, virtual prototyping and testing.
• Education: virtual laboratories, multimedia classroom tools, interactive
simulation, symbolic analysis tools.
The COMPEL’04 Committee also seeks half-day tutorial submissions in these areas.
Deadlines:
Digest submissions due April 15, 2004.
Author notification of acceptance by June 1, 2004.
Final paper versions due on arrival, August 15, 2004.
Schedule:
Tutorials Sunday, August 15, 2004.
Workshop sessions and demonstrations Monday-Wednesday August 16-18, 2004. Social
events include a Sunday reception and Tuesday banquet.
Tutorials and sessions will be held at the Coordinated Science Laboratory,
University of Illinois.
Preparation of Submissions:
All submissions must be provided in electronic form. Prospective authors of
papers or tutorials are asked to submit a cover page and a separate digest not
exceeding five double-spaced pages (including all figures, tables and
references) of their intended submission. The cover page should include the
title, author names and complete mailing addresses, telephone and fax number,
e-mail addresses, and an abstract, not to exceed 100 words. Please clearly
identify the corresponding author. The digest should include only the title but
should not identify the authors. Tutorial submissions should include a cover
page and a detailed outline of the proposed content. Electronic submission of
the cover page and digest (or tutorial outline) is required. Please use two
separate files. Acceptable formats include .PDF and .PS types. Be sure to avoid
fonts that are not part of the standard set. Submissions should be delivered as
e-mail attachments to ComPEL04@pels.org.
